I agree with Robert Beeching on what he wrote on Sat., 28 Jun 1997
I have been on this list serv for about 6 months and I have also read
genuine concerns and suggestions on ART EDUCATION ISSUES, and there are
entries that should be served through individual Email because you DO
take up VALUABLE SPACE .
I love the exchange of ideas with other art teachers which are VERY
helpful to me at my job and things that I can USE.
I too HATE to wade through what I also call 'junk" mail which has
little to do DIRECTLY with educational concerns.
Yes, Art education is in crisis and we need to find solutions through
this page and not just pontificate.
We DON'T need philosophers and chefs to vent their nonsense. You SHOULD
consider your own "web" page, half the time I don't even read what you
say because it doesn't concern Art Education.
I am an ART teacher, concerned with education, I want and NEED ideas
not a philosophy.
I'm glad you said something Robert about what was going on and what
needs to be on this page. I AGREE with you 100%.
Deborah- I for one WANT to hear about the state of art education today,
it's VERY important to me as a teacher. If you want sweet elixir try
another web sight.
Rosa- Art education is not in a crisis because we are not philosophers,
we then would be teaching philosophy. I for one am NOT a philosopher.
You can talk and talk and not get any where, just stating your ideas.
This does NOT help me in Art Education!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Margaret- I HATE this light-hearted "junk" Its just a waste of time. I
NEED ideas. The state is coming down hard for the "P&E's". we need some
ideas on this matter not some philosophy which won't get us any where.
I don't think that Robert's post has an UGLY tone of censorship in it
at all, he is just stating his opinion which I agree with, so don't
ruffle your feathers. I enjoy this web sight but alot of things written
do not have too much bearing on what is needed in Art Education.
Carla in LA.
Get serious-!!! Do you think this is a joke?? Art Education IS in
crisis throughout the states. We DO need solutions for teacher training
at the univeristy level AND a scope and sequence approach to the
teaching of art "principles" and "elements"
I too do NOT think this page was designed for home-spun philosophers
but for people who are concerned with Art Education. We need
suggestions on ART EDUCATION ISSUES. I want to exchange ideas with other
art educators on pressing issues which affect our profession
Thank-You,
