Hello,

I'm new on the list and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm an artist
(painter) and video producer for Kentucky Educational Television in
Lexington, KY. I produce professional development seminars which are
distributed to KY schools via KET's Star Channels satellite system.

I'm producing 12 arts related PD seminars for the next school year. I'm
also responsible for ten, 15 minute long, videos on technology tips for
teachers. These videos will most likely feature an
"on camera" presenter/content expert who will explain and demonstrate
the technology in question. I'm looking for input on what classroom
teachers and/or art specialist would most like to know about new
technologies. The list below is a work in progress. What do you think
about these ideas? What other technology tips would teachers like to see
covered?

Getting Started with your PC

The "very basics" of computer set up and operation.
How you can use a computer to help you work more efficiently.
What you need to know so you won't cause damage to the PC.
What you need to know so the PC won't cause damage to you.
Where to go for help.
The vocabulary of the internet (just enough so you can sound
knowledgeable).

Effective use of Electronic Mail

E-Mail in general and how to: upload, download, save time on-line,
preferences, etc.
List Serves.
Chat Rooms - On-line etiquette.
Bulletin Boards.
Viruses, what you need to know.
Downloading documents from the WWW .

3.
Surfing the Web - Productively

Search engines, effective use.
Research Data Bases.
Who's charging who for what and when?
Security issues: Credit card numbers, privacy, "cookies".
X-Rated issues: What can you do to restrict student's access to these
areas?

4.
Finding / creating interesting WWW integrated curriculum projects

Scavenger Hunt: Looking for specific information via search engines.
(art objects?)
WWW Riddles: Looking for clues to answer specific questions/riddles.
Seven degrees from ( add name here ): A cross reference project .
Creating a school newspaper or news show with WWW news sources. Each
school could be tied to a network of participating schools via KET's
Web site.

Creating Web Pages

What is HTML and other internet jargon - vocabulary.
Basics of creating a Web page. (Could tie to On-line News idea.)

6.
Creating more interesting Web Sites

Ideas for creative uses of web sites. Virtual art galleries. Museum
links.
Color graphics.
Links to other sites.
Animation.
Audio, Video.

7.
Video as an assessment tool

How to get good pictures with a camcorder.
How to get good audio.
Editing in the camera.
Dubbing tapes.
Videotaping for assessment: classroom exhibitions, performances, and
classroom participation.
