I have been reading the comments on here for the past several months and have
just now found a need to get feedback. I teach elementary art and am working
towards my doctorate in art education. The dissertation process is now
beginning for me. I am very interested in arts based research - what it is,
how it is "done" and where to find literature about it. I just joined the
Special Interest Group in arts based research but have not received any
literature yet. My questions to group are these:
1. What does one mean by arts based research?

2. How does one carry out an interpretive inquiry within a visual arts genre?

3. How is the relationship between art and knowing portrayed in the discourses
of education?

4. How does one portray an arts based pedagogy? And how can one interpret the
portrayals of arts based pedagogy?

Comments on any or all would beneficial. I would especially like to hear from
anyone who has been involved in arts based research.
