In one of my childrens classes at the Akureyri School of Visual Arts I
have a student with severe physical disabilities. He does have an
assistant with him, but I treat him like all the other students and I think
that is very important. I must say that it has brought a different
atmosphere to that class, the children seem more understanding of
eachother, they are more helpful and show more responsibility, it has
helped them in many ways, like to understand differences. Kalli´s art is
sometimes different from theirs but very creative and even if he cannot do
everything himself he knows exactly how he wants his works to be and shows
allready (at 10) a great understanding and feeling for art. I feel we
should always be able to keep children with disabilities mainstreamed
(Ithink you call it that). Regards, Rosa
