Next year our high school is starting the School to Work
program. Apparently this program is in existence in California and
other places already. I am interested in knowing whether or not anyone
out there has had experience in the effects of School to Work on the art
program in their schools. Our school plans to have all subject matter
divided into four "clusters" which essentially will be similar to
majors. For next year only the Business cluster will be in operation.
Students will pick their "cluster" (major?) in the 8th grade. We will be
under Communications and Fine Arts; other clusters are Business,
Engineering and Technical, and Health and Human Services. We have been
told directly that "all learning should be related to work!" I need help
on survival; I want to make sure fine arts are still around when the
next program/phase/trend comes around.
