I am truly a lucky art teacher in that my school is building and designing an art room just for me(K-5th)and my colleague (6-12th.) We have worked with the architect and are now working with the contractor, as our building is going up over the summer. My question for all you amazing art teachers is:
What is something you wish you could have built in for your own art rooms?
I am visiting three schools on Tuesday to get ideas. Ive worked at many different schools so I have a pretty good idea of what I'd like, but I figured you might have some ideas too.
I am thinking of the little things like flat file drawers, a sink at the height of a child and a sink at the height of an adult, counter space, gallery walls to display art, a projector/computer and screen, etc.
I teach at a Private school in urban Los Angeles that is unique in it's vast diversity both racially and economically so this is very thrilling for all of us that we received a generous grant to build a beautiful art center for our kids.
Any advice you might have of things that worked for your room, things you wish you had to make your room better, etc. is appreciated.
Hope your summer is going well!
