I am a bit late on reflecting here, I've been gone since school got out and have been catching up on the serve. My last three years of teaching art have been an aha. I've taught middle school art for 23 years. I've let myself relax and not be so structured. If I run across a lesson I find interesting, I tell my students, "I just ran across a really cool lesson, I have not done before, lets all experiment." they don't mind that we run into problems, we all solve them together not just me. It is so much more fun and students come up with ideas on how to branch off from some of those ideas. We learn together. We reflect on the process when done and how to improve it for next time. I've also gone away from teaching media first. We start with a theme we want to explore and communicate then comes the media. Very rewarding seeing students learn to communicate an idea important to them. I love my clients and my subject area.
