My favorite big vacation was in the Canadian Rockies and British
Columbia in 1984. I took VIA RAIL from Toronto to Vancouver, with a
five day stop over in Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise (The train
station here was used in the classic movie, "Dr.Zhivago.") The parks
and mountains are breathtaking. Be sure to take a ride up the
Columbia Icefields, where you will be on top of a glacier. Then at
the end of the train trip I spent two days each in Vancouver and
Victoria, with a side trip to the awesome Butchert Gardens. Getting
there from Kansas: try flying to Seattle, then taking a ferry ride
through Pugent Sound to Victoria or Vancouver. You may also want to
consider Alaska as a destination, too.
There are plenty of museums for you and guy activities for your
husband. Congratulations on your win!!
