[teacherartexchange] BAD DAY KILN

I had an Amaco Select Fire Kiln at my last school and loved it ! Push a few
buttons on the key pad and I was good to go. The kiln was in a seperate
room with ceiling vent system. The kiln caused the class room the become hot,
smelly, and the vent was noisy. So I always fired at night and on weekends
without worry because of the select fire system.
My school has moved into a new building this year (I KNOW IT'S WEIRD,WE HAVE
MONEY FOR A NEW SCHOOL , BUT NOT FOR PAY RAISES , OR FOR COLORED PENCILS )!
Anyway I got another Amaco Select Fire Kiln in it's own room with ceiling
vent ( I wanted under kiln vent ) . The kiln just know got hooked up as the
kids are leaving for the Summer, but the INSURANCE CO. says that the kiln
can ONLY be fired when there is some one in the building! They have installed
soft ware to the electrical system to the kiln ! When I want to fire I have
to call the head custodian in another building and telling to give me some
juice, otherwise there is no electric to the kiln . Kiln hours will be
7a to 11p M - Th as directed by the custodian !
I have been waiting ALL year for the kiln to be ready but the saved the
insurance secret until last !!!!!!!! What if the kiln isn't ready to
shut off at 11p? What about the heat? What about the smell? The Amaco Select
Fire is very well insulated, safe and is not going to catch the place on fire!
I don't really want to play be there rules,in case you can't tell!
Any suggestions? Also, The head custodian is a real jerk and delights
in having one up on a teacher!
Thanks,
Sharon
