I had two students successfully complete the 2D portfolio by
incorporating photography/photo manipulation/digital
imaging/printmaking--without any traditional drawing/painting. I see no
reason why your student couldn't be successful also. We really worked
to show breadth (exploration, basically) within those areas. I have
seen slides of student work in AP that portrayed a concentration
centered on a fictional magazine layout. Does that help?

I have mentored a student for several years. He is inquiring about
two-dimensional AP (not drawing or painting) and is accomplished in
design and computer animation. Is there a way for him to actually take
an AP class with these skills? Can anyone help me on this question?
