setting dye

hey all,

My mom & dad just returned from an amazing trip to China, where Mom bought a
batiked dress. She is wondering what to soak it in to set the dye.
(vinegar? Salt?)

(Unfortunately, she has no idea what type of dye it is.)

She called the art teacher daughter - but I really don't know much about
this one.

Help! Any ideas?
