I have the same policy. I keep all art until the spring Open House. Then the
kids can take home their portfolios. I also have an all school art show that
night. (I keep some pieces from that show for a judged art show in April each
year.) It's a good time to send it home as it prompts many parents to visit
the art room to ask about the projects. I keep the notebooks/sketchbooks in
seperate boxes and those go home the last week of school.
The portfolios are a folded piece of posterboard with yarn tied on thesides.
I color code them by grade level according to the textbook colors. The
notebooks are pocket folders with with brads. The kids put computer paper
inside to draw on. I have them put handouts and vocabulary words in these
folders also. Janet
