This would just be side information along with any Da Vinci lesson, but my kids love hearing background info. on the Mona Lisa- the how much, where is it, how big, and especially the WHO is it ? Also that there is more than one Mona Lisa ( his students made a few if I remember correctly).
They really were fascinated by the possibility that Mona was really Leonardo himself. I don't remember which magazine I got it from but copied all the info. on how they superimposed Leonardo's face ( with computer images)over the Mona Lisa and it matched and the article went on. Anyhow, I
learned from a very FUN art history teacher that your students will remember the artists more if you can tell more about him/her, if you give info. other that what they painted and when. The suggestion about telling about his other "careers" will also grab their attention.
