Re: private school salaries

I teach in private school, not as much money as public, but lots of pluses
which are:
Terrific support from administration and parents for the arts.
Professional art gallery within the school.
16 students per class.
2 prep periods per day.
School endowments pay 75% of graduate school costs as well as monetary gifts
to teachers for special trips or professional enrichment.
Total payment for sabbatical trip during school break.
Great budget.
Parents Association monetary support: e.g. covering "wish lists" for
classrooms &
at the end of the year they gave each teacher $100 cash for out of pocket
Two years ago they gave the art room a printing press, and this year and last
year $200 worth of visual aids.
Beautiful facilities and campus.
Out of all of these things the support for the arts is the most rewarding. It
is great to know that being an "art teacher" is important to the students and
the school. The parents are very vocal about how important art is to their
kids. I think being in an academic community area has something to do with
this too.
