My students are invited to display their work. Learning to hang the "gallery"
is part of their experience. Everyone is invited to show, but since it is
not mandatory, kids who
know they could have done better usually wait till next time. One of our
profoundly delayed kids proudly displayed his work. I was a little worried
about audience reaction, but the response was so positive and supportive.
Sometimes I ask everyone to go through their portfolios and select the piece
they are most proud of for display. Rubrics and critiques aside, judging
art is pretty subjective. There is almost always something wonderful to
enjoy about each piece of art-- A, B, or otherwise.
