fun stuffYeah aren't those "hats" fantastic!!! I gotta play with that stuff sometime!
Read the Sithsonian artical and then went out to see "The Patriot" Like "The ...Storm" its very good but not GREAT. The input from the Smithsonian truly adds a sense of authenticity WHERE the film makers took the advice... They had the Green Dragoons (a brit military unit) all in red with only a token green lapel. They figured we wouldn't recognize them as brits without red coats. I think the helmets would have been a sufficient hint. I'd like to have seen more in the Gullah/Maroon village too. Still, the Swamp Fox (Ghost in this case) storyline is an entertaining yarn.
Have you ever thought about showing one of the movies which has had a long life of re-makes? Thief of Bagdad comes to mind. The technology available to kids to day is so much better than what they had on the old silent sets and even some more recent films. The question that I try to keep in mind when watching movies critically is "What are the recognizable qualities in the professional film that distinguish it from an amateur film?" OF course the same question applies when comparing professional and amateur paintings.
I also am hugely encouraged that "The Painted Word" is proving so popular here!!! I really enjoyed it and have re-read it a few times now.
cheers
