The union is not a separate group of people that justs sits around solving
porblem and negotiating the contract. We each teacher is the union. In my
district the union leadership will all be retiring within the next 5 years.
It is up to the newer teachers to educate themselves on what makes a strong
union. It is not necesasarily an adversarial position but one which can be
in dialog with the district and its teachers.
