    Roberta,

The wire sculpture is a sixth-grade project and they use soft wire that is
easy to bend. I show them how to use the straws for support. For example,
kids have made a swing set out of wire and the wire was threaded thorugh
straws to give the upright sections strength.

BTW, the Snelson site posted, http://www.teleport.com/~pdx4d/snelson.html,
    was very nice.

<< Harold - Thanks for mentioning Snelson - would never have known about him
otherwise. Would be interested to know what suggestions you make to the art
students when they use straws with their wire sculptures. What do their
sculptures then look like ? Do you talk about tensegrity or compression?
    Thanks Roberta >>
