.. could be a "gift" or aptitude. I view "talent" with a jaundiced eye,
suspecting that there is no such thing. I have witnessed much "talent" and
little in the way of art all rolled up in the same artist and his or her
artifact. By saying one is 'talented' seems to ignore the hard work,
practice, close observation, and attention one usually exerts when achieving
an artistic end. Saying one has 'talent' could be our tendency not to
attribute much to ourselves or of our own input in unwarranted humility. I
prefer aptitude to gift or talent in describing my wont to make art, but then
this is mostly semantic, we can call it what we will. Peter
