So many cool ideas on how to use straws!...Here is one more.
Our technology teacher had the 6th grade students design a carrier for an
egg. The carrier had to keep the egg from breaking when dropped from the top
of a step ladder. This unit involved many creative problem solving
skills--as well as aesthetics. I was truly amazed at what the students came
up with. Some of the students who had given me fits (not really fits...but
didn't do well in my class) made some great designs.
She used colored plastic straws for this exercise. She had plastic eggs to
use for building the carrier. To cut down on mess, she put the real eggs in
little plastic bags before their ladder drop. This teacher has won numerous
teacher of the year awards in technology---If anyone wants this lesson plan,
I am sure she would share it (I could get it in the fall).
