Here's what you can do with a gazillion toothpicks. I have done it on
the highschool level, just for kicks, and the kids loved it. Get a bag
of beans at the supermarket. Soak them overnight. These then become
connectors to the toothpicks. The kids make bridges, and other kinds of
architectural/geometric shapes. When the beans dry they 'bite' and the
sculpture becomes permanently connected.
