Today I went to our end of year retirement party. One of the waitresses
rcognized me. She was in an eighth grade class of mine five years ago. She
wanted to let me know that she still had her artwork. That it was framed and
hung in her bedroom. When friends comment on the work, she can still
remember the process. After reading in the last few days about leftover
work, this really made me feel good.
I have shared with my students that when I was in art school, I thought I
had "not enough talent" so I left. Didn't clean out my locker abandoned all
my paintings and sketchbooks. And I tell them that even now after 30 years I
still remember the work I threw out and I have regrets. Often they respond
    to a personal story.
