I think middle schoolers just don't want to be seen with it - similar to
not wanting to be seen with their parents - high school kids are a bit
better - but I do say, " if you are going to throw it away, don't put
it in my trash because I will fish it out and use it as an example" (a
la pink cup). With my printmaking students (high school) we have an
auction or trade day because I discovered that they think it is cool to
have someone else's work - I tell them that person might be famous some
day and you will have an "early" work - they are very respectful of the
effort others put forth. Beginning classes are not so keen but will
trade among themselves if they don't want their own piece.
