In order to 'up' my budget one year, I took the amount of students I was
teaching and divided it into the amount of money I was getting. For
example 200 students with $800 dollars which would break down to $4 a kid
for the YEAR!!!!!! Then I asked, in writing, what kind of program did
administration think we could have at that price? I included the costs of
clay, acrylics, pencils, erasers, paper, glue, tape--all EXPENDABLES--in the
conversation (assuming you keep rulers, scissors, pottery tools, brushes,
etc from year to year). Most administrations HAVE NO CLUE how much supplies
cost or WHAT or HOW YOU TEACH. To tell you the truth, they want us to shut
up and produce fabulous art for nothing. Give your administration a lesson
in economics.
It's time to take a summer break....
