I teach junior high. In the 7th and 8th grade I give 18 x 24 construction
paper which they fold in half and also fold in a 3"(app) flap along the
long side. Each class gets a different color. Each table has a table folder
which the students put their folders into at the end of class and then all
the table folders go into a box. This makes for very simplified passing out
and returning the folders. Because my courses are only in ten week blocks
the construction paper is good enough. In the ninth grade we make an
envelope out of 24" x 36" tag. This gets folded and then taped with 2'
masking tape on 3 sides. It lasts the whole year when they can take all
their work home. I also have them do a final portfolio review. I have found
vertical storage is better. They don't like to take the time to find their
folder on the bottom of the pile, so they tend to stop using the folder and
leave their work all over.
