I am just finishing my first year. I found out about 2 weeks after I got the job that I was going to be moved out of the school building to an small two classroom building (previously a pre-school) that is a five minute walk from the main school. I had two days to pack up and clean out 15 years worth of stuff before the movers came ( I went in on a very hot weekend in July) then I came to school on 8/19 last summer and there was a pile of garbage and stuff in the "old" art room and the custodians asked me what was happening with it, so I spent another week going through yet more garbage....some of the art pieces were dated from the 1970s! Anway, somehow I got move and unpacked and sort of ready for the first day of school...but on the first day of school it poured! and I had to teach my first few classes in the regular classroom out of a paper bag! It has been like that all year. I love my little building...but if it is even cloudy...forget about it...!!! Also my klin w!
as left in the main school building. So every clay project had to taken up twice! I had a lot of problems with broken clay, storage, stuff here there and everywhere. Now that we only have 4 days left...it looks like I might actually live!!!
What I learned...Rome was not built in a day...and your students will show up and you will teach them..whether you are ready to or not, whether your room is perfect or not...and whether you have a place to put anything...or not!!!
Keep your sense of humor...and yeah...go buy the spray paint for the cabinets....maybe do a little graffiti art...think of how good you will feel!!!
