There are so many reasons why we don't get the jobs we apply for. One
cannot always take a rejection personally. There are political reasons and
other people who are "connected." I left the teaching field for 20 years to
raise my 2 kids who are now in college. I always remained involved in the
teaching of art, either through giving private lessons or by subbing. It
was very difficult, a few years ago, when I decided that I wanted to
re-enter the classroom. It was most frustrating that I wasn't hired in my
hometown system where I did alot of subbing. I did not take it personally
because I knew I was an excellent teacher. It had alot to do with the fact
that I was a threat to the head of the department. There's a whole lot of
s--- that goes on behind the scenes that we can't begin to know about. The
bottom line is that I persevered and now have a job that is 10 times better
than the job I wanted, but didn't get. It took a few years, but it was
worth the wait.
