I love papier mache' because you can make anything. I have assigned small
animal before christma which students could then string for ornaments if
they want, trays of many shapes that we then painted in the style of a
famous artist, vessels that took on many shapes where I would require a
number of added pieces such as handles, lids, relief, feet

that is the problem, not enough time!! and so many fun, exciting, important
things to do

I have done something similar with great success also. Instead of India
ink, rub the foil with corse paper towel and then paint with water colors.
the result is a beautful shimmering color.

I also use this same tactic. If students can't behave with art materials I
give them the same terms and infermation but without the art supplies. this
can be for a class or an individual. they usually come around so they can
stop doing book work.

Our school does have teams but it is not set up to include the "encore"-
Art, P.E., Music, Family Living...
the core teachers (English, Geography, Math, Science) have a team. These
teachers work only with the group of students and teachers in their team.
"School within a school" idea they have an extra planning time so that they
can plan together. they even have their own central office in their hall and
have set up their own coffee pots, frig... Many of them do not even come to
the teachers lounge ever. For teachers like me who are without a team,
team time or team room the feeling is of being outcasts. Most travel from
school to school. I am one of the lucky ones that stays in one school. I
don't even have my room during a planning period and I don't have an office.
I have been assigned to a team only to take a group of students during the
morning "homeroom" time (30 min.) so that the team will not have to many
students in their homerooms. It doesn't quite make sence. I do my best to
work with it but I have told the principal that I don't think I should have
the homeroom. I hate to sound so bitter but there is some disrespect for
the subject in this system. I do love my job and I have banded together
with anyone who feels left out. I also try very hard to include all team
teachers in what I'm doing but my schedule makes it impossible to do art
that goes along with their subjects.:) they do understand this now but they
didn't the first year. If they come to me for ideas I will do anything I
can for them except give them supplies that I need. If they ask to borrow
brushes I ask them to sign them out.
Kathy - If you have a specific question about teaming I might be able to
answer.
thank you for your ideas
