    i wonder how many art teachers were "slow" learners, or "late learners". i
    certainly was. i too remember picking books for the pictures and "telling"
    the story that i saw rather than reading. the school was concernind about my
    ability. oh... the phonics drills... how i HATED them. as a jr. high
    student (when most kids turned away from reading) i finally figured out that
    there was some decent stuff worth reading and you couldn't get my nose out of
    a book.
