Up here in (especially rural) NSW (the host state) many of us are feeling
more than a little jaded about the Olympics too, particularly given the
protracted and oft times bitter dispute members of the NSW Teacher's
Federation have been engaged in with the Dept. Ed. for over a year (we won
last week, break out the champers). Out here we are concerned about the
diversion of resources from our education, health & transport
infrastructure.
At a school level however , we have not had the pressure applied to us that
you seem to have had to deal with. Our principal is a music teacher though
(make what you will of that). In any event there is less than 100 days to go
& the torch passes through our town in a few weeks. I think the closer we
get the more people will get behind it. We are the land of the short memory.
