Our high school is kicking around the idea of developing a "coffee house" at
the school that would be a combination of the old beatnik coffee houses and
the modern day Starbuck's. Want a place where students can sit, talk, do
homework(?) and purchase smoothies, snacks. In addition, student created art
displays would rotate and there would be a microphone with scheduled student
poetry reading nights, open microphone for students to play their original
music, etc.
We're looking to build a sense of belonging to those groups who don't quite
fit in with the athletes or the brains, and gives them a place to display
their talent in a place all students might find fun and mainstream, but a
bit edgey.
Anyone have a school with such a "place."
Thanks, Karen in Sacramento, CA
