In our district, we also have to sit with our scheduled classes during
assemblies. However, this makes sense to me, since they'd be with me during
that time anyway. Classroom teachers only get 30 to 40 min. a day to plan
and prep., 60 min. if you count the a.m. before the kids come in. Although
I teach seven classes a day, I have 30 min. prep. each day, and on the days
    I don't have duties (2 out of 5) I have 45 min, in the a.m., and 30 min. in
the p.m. Teachers often miss their prep. time for various reasons, and I
don't think that's fair either. I do dislike when I have to take an unruly
class to an assembly. I do blame the classroom teacher for their students'
unruliness, since teachers should make clear consequences when their
children misbehave (no matter who is in charge).
