The 5th graders entering our school select one of these electives: an Art and
Music course, Band, or Orchestra for the year. The sad part is that some will
never take Art after 4th grade. Some will miss out in 5th and 6th and are
behind when they enter 7th grade art. Personally I think it is done because
they want to build award winning marching bands in the HS and want to get a
jump on it.
The good thing is I have nice size classes: Sometimes as low a 11 and as
high as 25. But all quite workable. I have more time to work with the
children.
