    Sax and Dick Blick both sell a neat sketchbook that has ruled paper as well
    as a sketch area. (Note/Sketchbook) That might be the ticket for you- that
    way the kids can keep notes and personal sketches in one book rather than
    two. My advanced kids used these and liked them. Price is reasonable.
