RE: Artie/ art teachers in Kentucky

    I am an elementary art teacher in Kentucky - granted - my first job was for
    the entire county (3 elementary and one middle and 1200 kids) but for the
    last 18 years I have been a full time elementary teacher at one school. Two
    years ago we added a part time position, and last year a second. We have
    approximately 425 students. I am in a wealthy district - but our state
    funding has decreased dramatically in the past 10 years - KERA tried to
    level the playing field. I know of surrounding districts that have full
    time elementary teachers at individual schools -
    My children go to a Catholic school and they have a wonderful arts program -
    they added drama this year - their art teacher will soon be full time.
    Many districts around the state have really revamped their arts programs
    because of KERA and the state testing program. What have you seen in your
    AIR assignments?
