    Andrea,

My sister lives outside SD, too, and I've visited many times.

She once had comp tickets for the San Diego trolley, which seems like a pretty
hokey, touristy thing to do, but it really gives you a great overview of
different things there (I was "co-host" for a visiting relative while my sister
was at work). It starts in Old Town, and takes you through the Gas Light
district, out to Coronado Island and the fantastic hotel (have lunch there), and
a number of other sites (I think Balboa Park, too). You can get off at any stop
    and re-board at any time.

The La Jolla museum of contemporary art is good, and strolling around LJ is
fun. Balboa Park has all kinds of things to do, including museums and the zoo.
The Wild Animal Park is excellent; take a picnic lunch with you. Sea World is
interesting, too as well as the Scripps Aquarium. If you like to snorkel, the
La Jolla Cove is beautiful and protected, and there are lifeguards.

Gosh, there's so much to see and do there. Hope you've got lots of time. Have
    a great trip.

    Maggie
