    I woke up this morning with serious laryngitis, but thanks to all of you and the 'edible color wheel' lesson, my observation with the interviewing principal went really well today! I've earned another interview for next week. Because I couldn't speak above a whisper, I called the student's attention with finger snaps. They had to sit silently to hear anything at all, so they did. The interviewing principal was impressed by that. I knew that when students are truly engaged then discipline problems are reduced, and this lesson was surely engaging. They were really interested in the colored stuff I was dishing out, too, not realizing it was icing, but knowing this was going to be very special.

    Who was it that came up with that great 'edible color wheel' lesson, anyway? Thanks, Sharon, for posting your version. I used it just about as you wrote it, except I used Food Coloring Gel (seemed like more pigment than the regular liquid food color) and used two tubes of red, so we had RED and not pink. It was a very successful lesson that I will definitely repeat. One 4th grader who has had trouble grasping and memorizing color theory concepts all year seemed to have some sort of epiphany about it today. I overheard her joking with a member of her group, "I get it! You mix Red and Yellow and it tastes Orange!"

    Classes like this are part of what makes it 'worth it' for me. Thanks again, ArtsEdNet...you make us all look good!
