I'm sure someone has already mentioned John Lennon, but I just now thought
of Eric Satie. His scores were calligraphic and painted and very visual, a
pleasure (along with a few jokes as I recall) intended only for the musician
playing them.

Not a musician, but Henry Fonda was a pretty good watercolorist.
