Hello everyone, I very rarely ask for your help but I have a few questions
that I was hoping that someone could shed some light on.

In my advanced art class, Art 4, Leigh H.S. this coming year I would like to
try a new unit that revolves around Japanese design and culture. I have seen
Kimono's that have been stretched out to produce a cross like design. This
pattern would be the guide for the students, in which they would keep the
integrity of the Kimono. The rest would be to use collage to produce a multi
layered design that keeps within the ideas of Japanese art and design
theories.

My question is:

1. How do you define Japanese design and cultural art theory?

2. Where can I find books or written information on Japanese art and
traditional art values?

3. Do you know of any Japanese artist/s that are working in collage or would
be considered a good example of Japanese design?

If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful and I would be happy
to share what happens with this unit, include handouts, examples and
materials used, such as hand made paper bamboo, silk, etc.

Thank you in advance!
