vouchers vs public schools (delete if not interested)

My husband insists that I open this thread. He thinks that teachers
should be up in arms about vouchers, especially in the context that if
vouchers do indeed become a reality, art teachers will probably be the
first to be laid off, when the tax base supporting the local public
school system is drained. (Of course my arguement is that they(the
voucher advocates) aren't going to be getting the total tax dollars per
capita, and therefore we, in the public schools would be having less
kids and still have money)....

He is also worried about the fact that the private schools, be they
religious, or academic, usually have the ability to 'chuck' kids out
when they don't meet their rigourous requirements, and the public
schools will end up being the repository of those students.
