my 15 yr old stayed in the air conditioned car (with loud rap on the stereo)
while i ran into the store. when i came out he told me an old couple pulled
up next to next to our car. the old man walked around the car and opwned the
door for the woman. they kissed and walked hand in hand smiling into the
store. he said it was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen in
his life. in school, i spend a great deal of time teaching students to LOOK
and to see beauty in everyday things. ( ie: durer's piece of turf) do our
own children become artists because we teach it? maybe he'll never paint or
sculpt that scene. he SEES the world around him and i am delighted to have
had THAT influence on him.
