art in group homes

I am interested in connecting with artists/teachers who use art in group
homes. I am thinking of developing a program to teach acrylic painting
on canvas to secondary school age boys in a local group home. These boys
are attempting to "remotivate" their lives, to free themselves from
substance abuse patterns, and gangs. My intuition is that the kind of
"lateral" thinking promoted by interest and success in art making may
combat the "vertical" thinking which does not allow them to choose or
make decisions that aren't based on immediate cause and effect. (peer
pressure, ego standing, etc.)

Has anyone access to literature on this subject? Know where I can access

I'll close now and post this. First time.

Tom thanks you
