In reply to MPBC90 regarding shoe tying, I am in the process of
having Montessori frames made for my prep class (I live in Australia - I am
not aware of equivalent in American schools - children are generally 4/5
years of age). Information can be got from various books which, I am sorry,
I no longer have - but the best ones, I seem to remember, were American. I
agree that children seem to be coming to school with less fine motor skills
and in my class I will have children who literally cannot hold a pencil, let
alone a paint filled brush, to those children who zip through everything
easily. Therefore the Montessori frames will be hooked on around the walls
for those children who need more fine motor skill work to use in their spare
time without causing either them or myself any stress. There are ones which
focus on shoe tying, on zippers, on buckling and on buttoning. I hope this
is of some use to you.
