Regarding a gender research study of middle school and high school
students, this is a SECOND REQUEST for 5 pieces of information, (listed
below--following this brief, 2 part explanation) that I will use as part
of the research for my masters' paper:

This is a request for qualitative/anecdotal information regarding
gender ratios (# of boys versus # of girls) that you recall from your
art teaching experience this past year. (I do NOT need exact numbers!)

1)--Specifically, I would like to know the ratio of boy:girl students
who choose ELECTIVE ART classes (where there is no computer art-making
access--only traditional art media is used to make art). For example,
if a little over 1/2 of your students are girls, you might report
that 55% girls and 45% boys took your class.

2)--AND (if available at your school) I would like to know the ratios
of boy:girl within art electives where access to computers IS
available to create art/design in any of these forms: DIGITAL
IMAGING; PAGE LAYOUT; ANIMATION; DRAWING; PAINTING; PHOTO RETOUCHING;
VIDEO EDITING; DESKTOP PUBLISHING, etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the FIVE pieces of information requested:

Based on your memory of the boys and girls in your elective art
classes (both those with and those without computer access) this past
year, please provide:

A) Indicate level: Middle School/Jr. High/High school;
B) Name of art elective WITHOUT computer access:
C) Approximate gender split in that elective class
(for instance, 50% boys-50% girls or 55% boys-45% girls, etc.)
D) Name of art elective WHERE COMPUTERS ARE USED/CAN BE USED
E) Approximate gender split of the students who used the computer
for art making (for instance, if this is an art tool choice within
the elective: did more students of a certain gender choose to use
the computer?) OR... are all students required to use the computer
while taking that elective, and if so, the gender split of the
class.

Optional information requested:
1. the state where you teach
2. the SES of your student population
3. the racial demographics of your school
4. On a scale of 1-10 (10=high), the emphasis or importance your
school/district places on technology and its use in education.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, I am interested in the comparison of the gender ratios in
each non-technology art electives versus art electives that include
technology--whether or not there is a difference in the ratio when
technology is offered.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Respectfully,
M.Grosspietsch
