Response to tessellation clay tiles... Yes I have made clay tiles using
a tessellation template. If you can make a tessellation you can make a
tessellation template. The students have to design together and agree
on one design to use for the template they will share.
I have used the theme "We are all interconnected". The students must
design their individual tiles to reflect their thoughts and feelings
about dependence and interdependence. When they execute the designs,
orientation is important. I suggest that they turn the tile several
times as they plan the design so that there is no top or bottom.. That
will make assembly much easier. It is important to score the tiles
before firing so they don't warp out of shape.

Now I am teaching at a lower grade level and don't have a kiln. The
tessellation template is the same and the theme is the same but the tile
is made from white and colored tag.
