*** I am interested in the folk style of painting that uses dots as the
primary design element. I have read books and articles about the painted
decorations of the Oaxacan wood carvers and the Australian Aboriginal dot
paintings. I am interested in web sites, and there are many listed in
the Talk archives for me to visit. I visited Oaxaca and observed the
artist carving and painting.
*** Here is where I need help: I remember reading about an African people
who use the dot motif for decorating their bodies and their dwellings.
Does anyone have any specific information about this African culture, or
about any folk art that uses the dot as the primary motif?
*** One objective I have in presenting these three traditions is to
illustrate that the style of art is influenced by the materials and tools
available, and to compare and contrast each culturešs use of the same
tool.

I am a new subscriber and I have learned so much in this past week. I am
eager to read much more.
