My name is Lynn Robb and I am seeking to fill four part-time art
instruction positions for the 1998 - 1999 school year. The job consists
of teaching a 2 1/2 - 3 hour art lesson three times a week,
approximately every other week at a public elementary school in Santa
The site is Will Rogers Learning Community: a California Distinguished
School and 1997 winner of the U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon
award. The program is a DBAE-based curriculum taught during regular
class time to all first through fifth graders . The thematic structure
for the coming school year (which is based on trimesters) is built on
the metaphors of earth, fire and water.
Art instruction begins in late September and continues throughout the
school year finishing in late June. Time requirements are (as referred
to above ): three 2 1/2 - 3 hour lessons, Tues., Wed. and Thurs. , every
other week. Class size is 20 students in grades 1, 2 and 3 and 32
students in grades 4 + 5. Pay is $75. per lesson.
Basic qualifications necessary for the position are: a background in
art (preferably , but not necessarily as a practicing artist),
experience working with children, a passion for both children and art
and the ability to commit to the above mentioned schedule. It is
desirable that you have some knowledge and/or experience with the DBAE
approach, but it is not a rigid requirement.
I am looking to fill these positions within the next two weeks. Please
contact me at your earliest convenience if you are interested, or if you
can refer an interested party to me.
