I worked on a similar activity in one school system. We found some
written work. We found many recipes in the book," Natural Dyes and Home
Dyeing" by Rita J. Adrosko, 1971 Dover Publishers. It was originally
problished by the Smithsnoian Institute . I then broaght in a working
artist. . I worked with a reknowned Batik artist who specialized in using natural dyes he created
in the Hawaiian Island. His name is Jerome Wallace. He is an excellent
teacher/artist. He took a group of my students to gather supplies,
taught and led the abstraction process then led them in the subsequent
dying and creation of a collaborative wall hanging.

Those that want to contact Mr. Wallace can e-mail me directly and I will
forward inquiries to him.
