Thanks Bunki for bringing this to attention of everyone on list and me.

There are a couple of possible reasons why you may have trouble visiting a
Web site. Since I don't have a detailed description of the specific error
message you received, it may one of several things. First, the Internet
backbones -- particularly the one in DC -- have been overloaded and crashing
-- this has caused a lot of DNS server errors and the like. June was a
particularly bad month. Spend enough time on the Web and you learn that
this type of thing is really very common.

On top of all this, Arts Wire is in the middle of changing its server. We
are moving from a commercial server located in Washington, DC to a server
located at Carnegie Mellon -- CMU's Master of Arts Management (MAM) Program
( As you can imagine, this has been lots of
fun :-) We have requested a domain name change ( is our
domain name) to InterNic -- to remap it from the Washington, DC IP address
to the CMU address. Unfortunately, this process does take a day or two for
the change to fully take place. So, the reason why you may not have been
able to access the site may be due to the domain name change. Given that
the Internet is a distributed system, the domain name change has to
"proprogate" to all other name servers on the Internet and this does not
happen instantly (Oh, I wish it that did --!)

So I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. So keep on
