To Eileen,
The issue of how, if and when to teach "culture" is even more problematic
than how to teach art (or even answer the big question...What is art? I
spent four years pursuing the art/culture question for my doctorate ...
my an iconographer (study of symbols and their meanings)
an then provide your students the resources to continue the research on
their own. I have taken this approach with children as young as second
grade. It works, it is respectful and it increases communication ...
this is always a possitive when attempting a horizontal dialogue!!!
